Kilkenny Ireland
Commercial video production for Kilkenny
Kilkenny stands on both banks of the Nore, between the castle of the Butlers and the cathedral hill of St Canice. It is a compact city with a long memory for craft, design and trade. Notlith makes commercial films for businesses here and across the county without sending a crew: you share your photographs, artwork and references, and we provide creative direction, a script, AI-assisted motion, editing, colour and sound.

Hightown, Irishtown and the river between
The medieval city grew in two parts: Irishtown around St Canice’s Cathedral and its round tower, and Hightown, the Norman borough that ran towards the castle. The route between them is now promoted as the Medieval Mile, passing the Tholsel, Rothe House and the narrow lanes known as slips. Across John’s Bridge, John Street leads away from the river towards the station.
Businesses in each part face different questions. A shop on a narrow medieval plot has to show its depth, a guesthouse across the river has to show its walk, a firm on the ring road has to show its access. We build every Kilkenny film around the place as it really is, using your photographs, and we do not generate castles, towers or streets to lend a business a setting it does not have.

Design, brewing and the co-operative economy
In the 1960s the Kilkenny Design Workshops opened in the converted castle stables, with a mission to raise the standard of Irish product design. The city also brewed ale beside St Francis Abbey for centuries, and its county creameries came together in a co-operative movement that led to Glanbia, which keeps its head offices here. Cartoon Saloon, the animation studio, is based in the city too.
That mix shapes the briefs we expect: makers who care about every surface, food and drink producers with labels that must stay exact, industrial and agrifood firms explaining processes, and hospitality businesses that depend on visitors. Each of our Kilkenny service pages takes one of those needs and treats it on its own terms.

A remote studio, and its limits
Notlith has no office in Kilkenny and no camera crew. We direct, generate, edit and finish remotely, which suits product launches, place and property presentations, social campaigns and explainers built from images you already hold. We tell you which shots use generated imagery, so the film can be labelled where needed.
Interviews, live performances and festival recaps need real footage. For those we recommend working with a local videographer, and we can edit what they film. Scope, formats such as landscape, vertical and square, any Irish-language version and permitted uses are set out in the quote before production starts.

Venue films
Welcoming guests? We film your venue too.
Restaurant, hotel, shop or property: from your photos, we make a hybrid film that makes people want to visit.

Preparing your film
Do you come to Kilkenny to film?
No. We work from the photographs, plans and references you send. When genuine footage is needed, a Kilkenny videographer or photographer can capture it to our brief, and we finish the film.
Can the film show Kilkenny Castle or St Canice’s?
Yes, from licensed photographs captioned as the city setting. We do not generate or alter these landmarks, or suggest that they belong to your business.
Can you time a film to a festival weekend?
Yes. We can plan a release around dates such as the Arts Festival or Savour Kilkenny, naming them in plain text. Official logos are used only if you are an approved partner.
What should we send first?
A few lines on the purpose of the film and where it will run, your clearest current photographs, and anything that must appear exactly, such as a label, a shopfront or a floor plan.
