Product films in Kilkenny for design, stone, clay and the county larder

Kilkenny gave its name to the Kilkenny Design Workshops, which from the converted castle stables set out to show Irish industry what good design could do. Craft and design shops still trade in the Castle Yard, and makers work across the county. Notlith turns photographs of those products into product films, adding direction, a script, AI-assisted motion, editing, colour and sound, while keeping every surface and proportion true.

Design that explains its decisions

The Design Workshops treated a teapot or a chair as a series of choices: material, proportion, the way a handle meets a body. A product film in the same spirit can slow down on those choices instead of spinning the object on a pedestal. One joint, one glaze, one fold of a seam can carry the film.

We ask you which three details justify the price and build the sequence around them, using macro photographs you supply. If a detail is not visible in your images, we ask for another photograph rather than generating a plausible version. A maker’s mark or signature on the base is often worth a shot of its own.

Black limestone: fossils, polish and weight

Kilkenny is called the Marble City for its dark local limestone, which shows pale fossil marks when it is cut and polished. Products in that stone, or in any natural material, vary from piece to piece. A film that smooths those marks into a uniform finish misrepresents what the buyer will receive.

We grade stone carefully, keeping the fossils, the difference between honed and polished surfaces and the true depth of black. Motion is restrained so that a heavy object still looks heavy. Where a generated surface would be tempting, we use your photographs instead.

Handmade means no two are the same

Pottery, glass and textiles from studios around the Nore valley carry small variations that buyers value. The film should say so, for example with a caption stating that colour and pattern vary, and should show at least two examples side by side.

That honesty also protects you from returns. We never multiply one photographed piece into a perfect set, and we never alter a glaze to match a brand colour. If a range is still being made, we label the film as a preview.

Food and drink from the county

County Kilkenny has a long dairy and brewing history, and small producers now sell cheese, preserves, juices and baked goods at markets and online. Food films need the label exactly as it is printed, the pack size visible and serving suggestions marked as suggestions.

We show the product as photographed and keep generated imagery to backgrounds and light. Claims such as “farmhouse” or “local” appear only as they appear on your approved packaging. Cuts for a web shop, a retailer pitch and Savour Kilkenny week can share one master.

Plan the details

Do you photograph the products?

No. We work from your photographs. If you need new images, a product photographer in Kilkenny can shoot to a shot list we prepare, covering the angles, the macro details and a plain background for each piece.

Can we say the product is made in Kilkenny?

Yes, if it is. We use the wording you can support, such as designed, made or finished in Kilkenny, and avoid broader claims.

Can one film cover a whole collection?

Yes. We group items by material or use so the viewer can follow, and we name each piece on screen with its real title.

Can you match our shop’s look?

Yes. Send your brand guidelines and examples of your photography, and we grade and set type to match them.
