Notlith · Sheffield

Video production company for Sheffield: hybrid films, honestly scoped

Sheffield takes documentary seriously: it hosts DocFest every June, and the Showroom cinema sits in the Cultural Industries Quarter near the station. That makes the difference between filmed evidence and a constructed film especially worth stating. Notlith is a remote hybrid studio. We create films from your photographs and references, with creative direction, AI-assisted imagery, editing, colour and sound, and we tell you when a camera crew would serve you better.

Documentary or constructed: decide first

If your story depends on what really happened, such as a community project, a customer's account or a factory at work, it needs real recording. If it depends on presenting a product, a space or an idea well, it can be built from good photographs. Mixing the two without saying so damages trust.

We ask that question in the first conversation. Sometimes the honest answer is a local crew for interviews and our studio for the explanatory sections, edited together with clear labelling.

What arrives in our inbox, and what leaves it

A typical brief from a Sheffield business might include product shots, a few photographs of the premises, brand guidelines and a link to a competitor's film the team admires. From that we write a short treatment: the idea, the sequence, the look and the sound. The treatment arrives before any generation begins, so a change of direction at that stage only means rewriting a page.

After approval we produce the master film and its crops for web, social and screens. Every generated shot is checked against your references, and anything that changes a product, a room or a logo is reworked or removed.

Comparing quotes fairly

Production companies around the city offer very different things under the same word, video. A one-day shoot with a crew, an animated explainer and a hybrid film from photographs are not comparable on price alone. A shoot brings location access and crew time that a photo-led film avoids; a hybrid film, in turn, cannot capture a moment that actually happened. Ask each supplier what is filmed, what is generated and what is licensed.

Our quote sets out duration, formats, language versions, review rounds and usage of the delivered files. We do not promise views or sales, and we do not claim a Sheffield office or a local crew.

Where this method fits in South Yorkshire

Manufacturers with confidential processes, retailers who need many product variants, property agents with steady new listings and hospitality businesses with seasonal menus all suit a photo-led method. The work happens remotely, so a business in Rotherham, Barnsley or Chesterfield is served exactly as one in the city centre.

Where the brief needs people speaking or genuine footage of the region, we say so and help you plan the filmed part separately. That might mean one interview recorded by a crew in a Neepsend workshop, cut into a photo-led film about the product range.

Plan the details

Are you based in Sheffield?

No. Notlith works remotely from client-supplied material. There is no Sheffield office or crew, and no site visit is included.

Can you edit footage we already have?

Yes, if you hold the rights. We can combine it with photo-led sequences, as long as the difference between real and constructed scenes stays clear.

How do reviews work?

You get a treatment, then draft versions at agreed stages. One contact gathers feedback from your team, and the number of rounds is in the quote.

Who owns the finished film?

Ownership and usage of the delivered files are set out in the quote, so you know before starting how the film can be used.
