Notlith · Rochester
Video production company for Rochester’s optics firms, hospitals, food brands and stages
Notlith is a remote video production studio working for Rochester organizations from their own photographs, drawings, documents and references, with AI-assisted motion and settings, editing, color and sound. We have no office or crew in the city. Below are four kinds of Rochester work we are suited to, each with the situations that tend to come up and the point where a local camera is the better choice.
Remote production · From your photos

Optics and imaging: showing what happens inside the part
Rochester’s optics, photonics and imaging firms grew out of the city’s camera and lens industry, and many of them sell processes a customer never sees: a coating deposited in a chamber, a surface measured to a fraction of a wavelength, a sensor aligned in a clean room. Their sales teams need short films that make those steps legible to a buyer who is not an optical engineer.
We build them from CAD views, process diagrams and bench photographs, with every step and tolerance taken from documents your engineers sign off. Export-controlled details stay out of the brief altogether. If a buyer needs to see your real equipment running, a local crew you hire films it and we cut that footage into the same explainer.

Hospitals and research: explaining care without inventing patients
The University of Rochester Medical Center, with Strong Memorial Hospital, and Rochester Regional Health are among the region’s large employers, and their departments, research groups and affiliated practices produce a steady stream of explanatory material: how to prepare for a procedure, what a study involves, how a new clinic is laid out.
Those films suit our method when they are built from illustrations, floor plans, approved scripts and photographs of real rooms. We never generate patients, clinicians or outcomes, and medical wording stays with your clinical and compliance reviewers. Interviews with doctors or participants need a camera, consent forms and a local crew, and we can edit around them.

Food and drink brands selling beyond the region
Rochester has a food culture of its own, from white hots and the Garbage Plate to Genesee beer brewed near High Falls, and the region is home to grocers, bakers, sauce makers, brewers and cideries that sell well past Monroe County. When a product leaves the area, the film has to explain to strangers what locals already know.
We start from your packshots and labels, which are composited rather than generated so every ingredient line and logo stays accurate. A film for a retail buyer can lead with format and shelf life, one for shoppers with the dish or the occasion. Nutrition and origin statements on screen come only from your approved packaging.

Downtown stages and their season announcements
The Eastman Theatre, Geva Theatre, the Rochester Philharmonic and smaller companies announce seasons months ahead, often before a single rehearsal photograph exists. Their films have to sell a program with artwork, past production photographs and the names of works and performers.
We design a visual system from that material that can be reused for each production as the season unfolds, with dates and venues set as text you can update. Performance footage needs rights cleared by the company and the performers, and we integrate it only when it is supplied with those permissions.

Plan the details
Do you have a Rochester office?
No. We work remotely from your material and make no claim of local presence. When a project needs filming in the city, we edit footage from a local crew you hire, and we can brief them on what the film needs.
Can you work with our local photographer?
Yes. We can write a shot list for your photographer, covering angles, light and details, and then edit their images into the film.
How do projects start?
With your brief, the material you hold and a call. We then propose a script and a visual direction before any image is generated.
What does the quote include?
Deliverables, formats, language versions, review rounds and usage rights, all set out before production begins.
