Give a Helsinki design object a story of its own

01
A shop selection and a maker’s collection need different stories
MyHelsinki’s Design District guide brings together design shops, galleries, workshops and other creative businesses. It also describes ceramics, jewellery and interiors within that mix. For a Helsinki retailer, the film can explain why a particular object belongs in a selection. For a maker, the same photographs may instead introduce the object’s shape and intended use. This distinction matters more to the brief than a generic montage of city landmarks.
Start with one audience and one object. A buyer browsing an online store should be able to recognise the item, understand its scale and locate the next useful detail.
02
Decide what the photographs can establish
Provide a full view and close-ups of the surface, rim, opening or fastening. A neutral background helps separate the object’s own colour from reflected surroundings. For a small-batch piece, explain whether marks vary between examples or form part of the design. We can preserve visible irregularities instead of smoothing them into an object that looks mass-produced. If the maker’s story is part of the campaign, supply the wording and evidence you want used.
03
Build a sequence around recognition and scale
One proposed treatment begins with the complete object, moves closer to a tactile detail and returns to a useful overall view. A hand or neighbouring item can suggest scale only when the reference supports the relationship. Avoid a rapid succession of decorative spaces that leaves the viewer unsure of the product’s size. For a retailer carrying multiple designers, keep maker names and product names distinct in the closing card.
04
Make a reusable film, then check what may change
An evergreen product film should not depend on a price, edition quantity or stock status that may change next week. Keep those details on the product page unless they are essential to the agreed campaign. A seasonal edit can introduce a new context while preserving the product itself. Our bottle demonstration illustrates controlled surface light and clear identification; it does not establish a Finnish origin or a particular sustainability claim.
05
Bring the film into the shop’s own voice
Send a few examples of your existing product copy and explain whether the film is for your online store, a maker presentation or a display. Notlith develops the concept remotely and combines hybrid production with editing, colour and sound. The quote defines the versions and review points. There is no need to imitate a generic Nordic aesthetic when the object already has a specific character worth showing.

Planning a film for Helsinki
Can you present a handmade item with natural variation?
Yes, using the actual item as the visual reference. Identify which variations are normal and which details define that specific edition. We should not turn one photographed example into a promise that every item is identical.
Can you tell the history of our workshop?
We can use your approved account and supporting material. Generated craft scenes cannot stand in for documentary footage of your workshop or proof of a manufacturing claim.
Does Notlith have a Helsinki shop or studio?
This page describes a remote service for Helsinki businesses. The concept image is a demonstration and does not represent a local studio, showroom or customer.
